If you are going to an event or a party, take your diet soft drink, plain soda or a Perrier water with a twist of lime. If you forget, you can always ask for a sugar-free mixer with ice. Once you have a glass in your hand, no one will notice if you are drinking alcohol or not. Eat before you go, so you will be able to pass up the hors d’ oeuvres.  

If you are planning to go to dinner at someone else’s home, explain to the hostess beforehand that you are on a unique program. If this is not possible, eat slowly, avoid extra fats and carbs, and stay with protein and vegetables. No one has to clean their plate to show that they enjoyed the meal.
